Recycled Tasmanian timbers, including eucalyptus, myrtle, celery top and huon pine, have been used extensively in construction of flooring, furniture, beds, shelves and benches. Timber was also salvaged from blackwoods, silver and black wattle trees that were felled in suburban gardens for safety reasons. All the external doors and many of the windows were constructed from Forest Stewardship Council certified western red cedar. External cladding and decking are made from macrocarpa, an exotic conifer, common as a windrow tree on farm paddocks. The timber has excellent outdoor durability. It is salvaged from farms when the trees fall over or start to break up.

The area is a bird watcher’s delight with a rich and varied bird population including wedge tailed eagles and sea eagles. Wallabies, quolls, echidnas and other native animals are common.
